The accuracy of external beam radiotherapy has improved rapidly in recent years with the advancement of technology. New modalities like three‐dimensional (3D) conformal radiotherapy, IMRT (intensity modulated radiotherapy) based on multi‐leaf collimator (MLC) and Tomotherapy technology for cancer treatments have been adopted in radiotherapy centers. In many developing countries like India these facilities have not yet been widely used in many of the centres and the only equipment commonly available for external beam radiotherapy is a Co‐60 machine (1).
